This morning while I visited Twitter, an upcoming guest of Welcome Changes Radio shared an absolutely brilliant video.
I normally don’t make the time to watch videos that are more than a minute or two. Life is busy! I have too much to do as it is, and taking more than those few seconds out of my day just doesn’t seem wise.
But today was different. The title of the video struck me. I began watching, even though I saw the video was nearly 20 minutes long. Then, once I started, I had to finish it. My to-do list didn’t matter anymore.
Elizabeth Gilbert on Nurturing Creativity (The video is embedded below. This is for those who may not see the video.)
Nurturing Creativity
I wondered what i was about? Are we to treat Creativity like a child? That’s weird. Nonetheless, it caught my attention enough to watch it. Until I started watching, I didn’t remember who Elizabeth Gilbert was either.
As I listened, I recognized what she was speaking of. There have been times where I have been writing or speaking, and what flows out of me feels like more than me. There was no other way to explain it.
One of the gifts that I received from this video, and I hope it inspires you too, is the peace of knowing that what has been flowing through me IS more than me.
Have you ever had that feeling like “Who am I to be all that?” I have. Lots. And, of course, I know that I am not alone. I never am.
The typical response is “Who are you not to be?” Which is true, but it never resolved the feelings.
The thing is, when the Rivers of Creativity Flow, it doesn’t matter who you are…you’re in its path. You’re the one it’s flowing through. Your unjust views of self don’t matter to Creativity. You’re there. It needs to flow. You’re the right size and shape of pipe for that creativity to flow through out into the world. It, again, doesn’t matter what you think about yourself. You fit.
Creativity Doesn’t Share Your Judgments
Creativity doesn’t share MY Judgments. Creativity does not see me as small and insignificant. Creativity doesn’t see me as Not Enough or Not Good Enough. Creativity just sees ME, and chooses to flow through me.
It also makes me wonder, how would things be different if I saw me the way Creativity sees me? I’m the right size and shape of pipe for it to flow through. I’m “wired” to hear/feel it. It doesn’t see me playing small. It flows through me. It doesn’t see me staring at my less than perfect body and my hair that seems to need a color too often these days. It doesn’t hear me dismissing my talents and gifts. It doesn’t stop flowing through me when I choose not to release it out into the world where it belongs. It continues to flow through me, waiting for me to drop the Judgments and release it out into the world.
When Creativity flows through you, what are you doing with it? Are you writing your poems down in a Journal, and keeping it hidden away too embarrassed to share them with anyone? Do you have manuscripts sitting on your computer that you haven’t had the courage to share with anyone? Do you dance alone with the curtains closed?
Will you drop the Judgments, and release Creativity out into the world?
Dream BIG!

The Queen of JOY!
I watched this video a couple of years ago and loved it and sent it out to my friends. It’s time to take another 20 minutes and watch it again. Thanks for reminding me of it and the wonder of creativity Velma.
Warmest regards,
Rosemary
